Contact the Media...
Make Your Voice Heard and Your Opinion Count!

I could be wrong, but I am firmly convinced that well-chosen words to the media count for as much or more than letters to the duly electeds.  The dulies will write you back with some palliative, assuring you they take your message to heart, and then go vote as the lobbyists please.

But, if, on the other hand, the editor prints your 250-300 word email in the online version of a large, daily newspaper and/or in the print copy, several hundred voters stand to read it, take heed, write their own letters, and you may sway  lotsa folks, who may then put as much pressure as the lobbyists on D.E. (duly electeds).

Tip!  If/when you have a bee in your bonnet, write your message in the word processor, hone it (with tools/word count) to 250-300 words, then 'copy' (send to clipboard), all offline.   Then, go online, get to where you want to send it, click on the email address, say of the Houston Chronicle, and insert (paste) your already composed letter in the message area.

You can do this and send out the same message to dozens of major newspapers, without having to re-write the email message each time!  Just a click of the mouse, and you are in the political agitating arena, big time.

For example, if you have some choice words of advice to share with the Iowa or New Hampshire voters regarding Bush's record here,  go to http://www.newspaperlinks.com, click on the state of your choice and, voila, there will appear a listing of most of the daily and weekly newspapers in that state, with clickable urls.  You can then go to their individual websites, e.g. the 45 in Iowa, and send each editor your email in a matter of minutes!

HOT TIP !!!  The Iowa caucus vote is January 24th.  The New Hampshire primary is February 1st.   Then comes super-Tuesday in Michigan, South Carolina and Arizona.  Feel free to share freely, your views of the Republican candidates for President in these early voting areas!

Other media links of interest, in Texas, would include the Texas Observer, both for your reading enjoyment and to contact!  News of Texas has both a syndicated TV (NBC) show and they have a good website where you can post your comments/reactions to their reports.

USA Today, the nation's hometown newspaper,  can be emailed at:  editor@usatoday.com, or written to at 1000 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 2229.

Advocate in Houston by emailing viewpoints@chron.com to the Houston Chronicle.  They also have an excellent, "e-the-people" function where you can sign, or start your own petitions, online -- a great, interactive town hall!

The Dallas Morning News receives email at metro@dallasnews.com.

Moving west, the Ft. Worth Star Telegram can be cyber-communicated with at letters@star-telegram.com.

Back to central Texas, citydesk@express-news.net should get your message to the San Antonio Express News.
